Position Summary: Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to confirm a patient diagnosis. Performs complex histological procedures, records and analyzes data, and maintains and repairs instruments. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Anatomic Pathology. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Uses computerized equipment and records data from tests. Works under general supervision. This person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and the Laboratory Department.
Hazards & Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and regularly walk and stand. The employee may occasionally be required to reach above and at shoulder level, have downward neck flexing and repetitive motions. The employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel equipment and specimens. The employee must occasionally lift objects weighing 10 lbs and may encounter exposure to chemicals, blood, tissues and body fluids.
Education & Experience: Must meet CLIA Standards for High Complexity testing:
60 credit hours, 24 of which are qualified science credits, with a minimum of 12 credits being in qualified Biology and Chemistry courses or Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in Histology laboratory techniques preferred. Experience with frozen section techniques is a plus.
Specific Requirements: HT/HTL certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
