This person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and their respective Department. Assess the physical and psychosocial health status of the patient in order to formulate nursing diagnoses and a plan of care for the perioperative period. Demonstrates ability to choose the appropriate equipment and supplies based on the patient’s needs and the skills needed to set up the equipment and supplies. Demonstrates ability to create a sterile field and to keep a constant vigil to assure the maintenance of sterility. Accepts responsibility as the patient’s advocate during the intra-operative period when the patient is under anesthesia. Accurately and thoroughly documents intra-operative data. Demonstrates a cognizance of the patient’s safety in the OR:
- utilizes universal protocol to assure
- assures consent is in place before surgery
- assures correct counts of sponges, sharps and instruments
- controls environment as regards temperature, traffic patterns
- recognizes equipment that is not functioning correctly
- assures proper positioning of the patient
