Wilbur K Callender, M.D.
Dr. Wilbur K. Callender is a native US Virgin Islander (born on St. Thomas), and a practicing Obstetrician/Gynecologist with over 42 years experience in the field.
Dr. Callender earned both his Bachelors of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees at Howard University in Washington DC, where he also served as an Assistant Professor for seven years and a Member of the Admissions Committee for two years. Dr. Callender also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands, Certificate of Healthcare Management from the University of North Carolina, and Certificate of Public Health Leadership from UCLA/CDC. He is also a Veteran of the US Army Medical Corps.
Since 1975, Dr. Callender has owned and operated a successful private OB/GYN practice in the US Virgin Islands. He has held many distinguished and leadership positions to include Chairman of the OB/GYN Department of the St. Thomas Hospital (now Roy L. Schneider Hospital), Medical Director of the Roy L. Schneider Hospital, and Commissioner of Health for the Government of the US Virgin Islands.
Dr. Callender retired from government services in 2005, but remains an active contributor to the Virgin Islands community.
In September 2008, Dr. Callender was appointed to serve as the Physician’s representative for the St. Thomas/St. John District Governing Board and a member of the Virgin Island Health & Hospitals Corporation Board (Territorial Hospital Board). Dr. Callender also serves as the Chairman of the Board Quality and Performance Improvement Committee.
Dr. Callender is an avid Tennis Player, is married, and has three children.
