Dr. Bernard Wheatley

Bernard A. Wheatley is the Chief Executive Officer of the Schneider Regional Medical Center, a position he has held since April 2013. In this role he is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Schneider Regional Medical Center, which is the umbrella entity of three healthcare facilities: The Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute and the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center.

Dr. Wheatley has over 20 years of healthcare leadership experience that includes overseeing major community and academic medical centers that demanded continuous improvement. Wheatley is recognized for driving health system performance improvements, customer service and clinical excellence, while building partnerships with key stakeholders. He is credited for reducing operating costs, increasing revenue, and improving efficiency by utilizing best practice approaches (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Evidence-Based Processes) to optimize patient outcomes and deliver great patient care.

Before joining Schneider Regional Medical Center, Dr. Wheatley served as Vice President of Operations at Athens Regional Medical Center from 1995-2013. Athens Regional Medical is one of largest healthcare systems in Northeast Georgia. It is made up of a 360 bed, trauma II level, teaching hospital and four urgent care centers.

Wheatley received his bachelor’s of science degree in Health Administration at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY. His master’s degree in business and healthcare administration from New York Institute of Technology and Doctor of Business Administration from North central University, Prescott Valley, AZ. He also holds a Certificate in Executive Healthcare Management from Ohio State University, and Certificate in Executive Healthcare Policy from Harvard University.

Wheatley currently serves on the Examination Committee for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is an ACHE Fellow.

He is married to Loretta Wheatley, and has three children.
